In conjunction with the cabinet order of 1873 for the transfer of all objects of decorative art from the royal museums to the new Kunstgewerbemuseum, Wilhelm von Bode was commissioned to write an expert opinion as to which Kunstkammer objects in the Neues Museum should be deaccessioned. He also offered recommendations as to how the remaining Kunstkammer holdings should be distributed among the royal museums. These recommendations were implemented, resulting in the transfer of around 6500 Kunstkammer items to the Kunstgewerbemuseum (see Kunstkammerinventar 1875). By 1878, this process was concluded and the Brandenburg-Prussian Kunstkammer was therewith permanently dissolved.
